Slab Leak Detection & Repair in the Bronx
We Locate Hidden Leaks Before Concrete Access
A slab leak occurs in a water supply or drain pipe under or within a concrete foundation. It differs from a crack or shift in the foundation, though continued water loss can erode supporting soil and contribute to movement or cracking. All County Sewer & Drain handles hidden plumbing leaks behind walls and under floors in Bronx properties.
We’ve served the Bronx since 1987. Our licensed and insured technicians provide sewer and drain services for residential, commercial, and municipal properties, including:
- Apartments
- Restaurants
- Hospitals
- Schools
- Buildings overseen by management firms

Methods for Locating an Under-Slab Leak
Locating a concealed leak before opening a floor helps identify the affected pipe and likely access point. We use infrared leak detection to investigate leaks behind walls and under floors. We also use video camera inspection to view conditions inside an accessible drain or sewer line.
The investigation may involve:
- Infrared Leak Detection: Thermal differences can reveal areas that warrant closer investigation without immediately disturbing the surrounding surface.
- Video Camera Inspection: A camera can provide a direct view of conditions inside an accessible drain or sewer line.
- Pressure Testing: A whole-building pressure test can isolate sections of a supply system and identify where pressure is lost. This method isn’t suitable for every plumbing configuration.
- Acoustic Listening: Sensitive listening equipment may help trace sounds produced by escaping water without disturbing the surrounding surface.
The appropriate approach depends on whether the suspected problem involves a supply line or drain line, the building layout, and the available access points. After locating the problem, we explain our findings before recommending pipe repair or pipe replacement.

Signs of a Slab Leak in Bronx Properties
A concealed leak may appear as a change in the floor, water use, pressure, or sound rather than visible standing water. One sign alone doesn’t confirm a slab leak, but unexplained changes warrant an inspection before conclusions are drawn about the pipe or foundation.
Warning signs can include:
- Warm or hot areas on a ground-floor slab that may indicate a hot-water leak beneath the surface.
- Running-water sounds when faucets, appliances, and other fixtures aren’t operating.
- An unexplained increase in water use without a known change in occupancy or normal demand.
- A pressure drop at one fixture that may point to a concealed plumbing problem.
- Cracks in walls or floors that require evaluation to determine whether leaking water, foundation movement, or another condition is involved.
Pipe Conditions in Older Buildings
Bronx properties built before modern plumbing codes can have underground lines affected by corrosion, shifting, and decades of roadwork or utility work. Older multifamily and mixed-use buildings along the Grand Concourse may contain plumbing installed during different construction periods, making pipe material and routing important parts of the evaluation.
Under-slab cast iron and galvanized steel piping can deteriorate through corrosion, scale buildup, or joint failure. Copper piping can develop pitting or galvanic corrosion caused by contact between dissimilar metals. These are possible causes rather than a diagnosis, so we evaluate the line before recommending a repair.

Planning Slab Leak Repair in the Bronx
Once we identify the leak, we explain its location and the observed pipe condition. We may recommend pipe repair or pipe replacement based on those findings, the access requirements, and the condition of the affected line.
A confirmed slab leak doesn’t mean the entire concrete slab must be opened. Repair planning begins with location confirmation so the work can focus on the access needed for the affected pipe. The extent of concrete access and related surface work depends on the building and the leak’s location.
Our fully equipped service trucks support responsive sewer and drain work. Emergency sewer and drain service is available 24/7/365 for problems requiring immediate attention.
